BOC WORK SESSIONS NOW ON-LINE FOR YOUR VIEWING

The BOC has finally allowed the cameras in the Work Session meetings.  Kudos to Madam Chair, who agreed to do this.  The Work Session is where you will hear the detailed discussions and viewpoints of all the commissioners before items are placed on the Agenda of the Legislative Meeting to be voted on the following Tuesday.  The Legislative meeting has been filmed for decades, but the public was not able to hear all the different points of an issue that was done in the Work Session.  I have advocated for this for years…..you will recall the meeting I walked out of when it was not allowed to be recorded.  The citizens win with more transparency!  It is found on www.celebratedouglascounty.com (last menu item on the left menu)   Access current session at http://www.celebratedouglascounty.com/view/officials/view_off/&cdept=51&department=Commission+Meetings+%26+Work+Sessions+-+Boards+and+Commissions

FOX HALL UPDATE

Many have asked about the status of Fox Hall, and I have attached the link to the latest update I received.  I am working on getting the Development Authority to post their minutes on the Internet so that these too will be readily available to the citizens.

SPLOST – The BOC is in the process of issuing General Obligation bonds to fund some of the more expensive SPLOST items. This allows us to proceed with the projects by FRONTING THE FUNDS and repaying the loans with Splost monthly revenues.  The BOC borrowed $75 million (County’s portion = $50 million and Douglasville’s portion = $25 million) to be repaid in 4 – 5 years.  Each entity will repay their proportionate share.  All COUNTY SPLOST items can be viewed at http://www.celebratedouglascounty.com/view/programs/view_prog/&cdept=458&department=2016%20SPLOST%20(Special%20Purpose%20Local%20Option%20Sales%20Tax)

HWY 5/BANKS MILL RD/DORSETT SHOALS/POOL RD ROUND-ABOUT - Well, we finally received a report from GDOT on this badly needed intersection.  The good news is the project is moving forward; the bad news - now, don't kill the messenger - is the timeline they sent out:

  • ROW acquisition - to begin summer of 2018
  • Begin construction - winter of 2019
  • Construction to take 24-36 months

Too bad GDOT does not have the same planners as those used on the new SunTrust Stadium. However, Thank You GDOT.....
