AUGUST #2 NEWSLETTER - DISTRICT 4

DOUGLAS COUNTY DOT DIRECTOR RESIGNS

Randy Hulsey, Director of DOT, resigns after serving DOUGLAS COUNTY for 17 years. Randy stated, although he had not planned to retire until next year, he felt it was time to exit the county.  Randy is highly regarded around the state of Georgia among his peers, GDOT, ARC, other organizations, and especially among his staff and entire courthouse personnel.  He takes with him a great deal of knowledge of not only all the roads and intersections here in Douglas County, but also the status of all the SPLOST and annual resurfacing projects.  I know he will be sorely missed both as a friend to many and a superb boss and director of our road department.  He plans to be consulting for other counties here in Georgia.  May God Bless you Randy.

Miguel Valentin, who was recently hired as Assistant DOT Director, will serve as interim director until the BOC takes further action to replace Randy.  Miguel comes from Rockdale County, after serving as their director for 10 years with experience in planning, design, construction, and maintenance of their transportation department; he has also managed and overseen their SPLOST projects.

POST ROAD BRIDGE PROJECT-originally included in Splost - will now be funded mostly by the State due to a grant.  The project has been pushed up by the State with the design to start POSSIBLY in 2018 and construction COULD start as early as 2019.  The matching County part of the cost for the bridge will include HALF OF RIGHT-OF-WAY acquisition, with the remainder being funded through the State grant. The funds included in the Splost for the bridge can now be used to fund additional road projects.
