THE TASK BEFORE US

The Board of Commissioners has the challenging duty of actually resetting the entire 2020 budget due to the virus.  At this time, we have NO IDEA as of today what the final effect on the revenues will be…the two main revenues we depend on is sales tax and property tax.  With over 22 million people in US drawing unemployment, it is easy for all to determine that both will be greatly reduced.  Remember, most food items are exempt in Georgia.  We all know that services and expenditures will have to be cut….so, be prepared and patient.  Although we all know this to be true, opinions on how we get to a sustainable revised budget will differ among the commissioners.  We do have a contracted financial advisor, for whom I have the greatest respect, who will provide the Board with insight into possible revenue replacement and expenditure reductions on Tuesday at the Finance Committee meeting..  Our job is to listen to him, to digest what he advises, and to ultimately decide what and how we will proceed to accomplish what is best for the county.

MONDAY, APRIL 20, THE Work Session WILL BE AIRED AT 10:00 AM..  I assure you all of the above will dominate the meeting.  Due to social distancing, the meeting will be streamed on Happenings FaceBook, DCTV23 Facebook, and www.dctv.com.

TUESDAY, APRIL 21, The FINANCE COMMITTEE WILL BE AIRED AT 2:00 pm ....very IMPORTANT MEETING

Many people do not realize they can contact me at home through my website www.annjonesguider.com.  I welcome your sincere INPUT and/or SUGGESTIONS.
